It's lustrous, won't tarnish, is durable and looks lovely. So, if you're a fan of the scintillating golden rays that emerge from this metal, have a look at our collection. Most of our jewellery is made from beautiful and lasting 18k gold.
The pure gold metal is too soft to be used for jewellery items. It will not be able to withstand daily wear and tear. Thus, gold is mixed with other metals like silver, copper, nickel and zinc to make it strong. We have 14k and 18k gold. 18k gold contains 75% gold whereas 14k has only 58.3%. However, 14k gold is usually used to make earring screws and bracelet clasps.
- Alloys and Colours
14k gold which contains 53.8% gold has more of other metals. Thus, it’s not as yellow and lustrous as 18k gold. But, it is definitely a stronger metal than 18k gold.
There are basically three types of colours in cold- yellow, white and rose. The colour of gold depends on the kind of metal alloys mixed with it. Yellow Gold is18k gold. The colour is rich and it is able to stand everyday-wear. White Gold is also made from 18k gold. To make the gold look white it is plated with rhodium. This rhodium plating may wear off with time but there's no need to worry because re-plating is an easy process. Rose gold has a large amount of copper in it. Young girls love it because it has a gorgeous pink colour!
- Karat and Grades
Gold is measured in Karats. Gold being very soft is mixed with alloys to achieve hardness when used in jewelry. Karat (K) describes the number of parts of gold in 24 parts of alloy, as 24K is pure. This proportion is based on weight, like 18K means 18/24 portions of gold and 06/24 of alloy. The value and purity depends on the change in karats. 14K-10K is the standard quality set for U.S. Fineness is another criterion to assess the quality of the gold. The 18K gold measures at 750 fineness of gold per thousand parts, calculated 18/24=75%.
- White Gold
White gold is authentic gold carefully mixed with whiter alloys to enhance hardness and strength. As gold is an extremely malleable and ductile metal, measuring soft on the Moho's scale. This interesting color variation is acquired with either mixing nickel or palladium. Though there is no set standard to calculate the perfect white as it depends upon the properties of the metal and the proportion in which it is used. The nickel white have an icy tone and palladium looks brighter white. Therefore the metal is Rhodium plated to get that dazzling white color. This thin plating also works as a guard to hyposensitive skin. White gold can never be 24K but the best would go up to 17K.
- Gold Care
You must store your gold jewellery in soft boxes or the original boxes o save it from dust. Keep it away from chemicals. Clean your jewellery with a soft cloth or brush and a soap solution. Don't use detergents to clean gold.
